What we’ve been doing…

Life Bus

Lucy from the Life Bus came to visit Year to talk about "Our Marvellous Bodies". We talked about how to keep healthy by eating well, sleeping well and getting exercise. We also talked about our internal organs such as our heart and lungs, and why they are so important. The best bit though, was having Harold in our classroom!

Cheesecakes!

This week Year 1 made cheesecakes. First we crushed our digestive biscuit then we cut our strawberries using a bridge technique and put some on top of the biscuits in our cups.  We then scooped yogurt into our cups  and drizzled them with honey. We then put the remaining strawberries on the top and at them all up!! They were yum and we had a great time making them together!

Kiyoshi Yamashita

Year 1 have been studying the Japanese artist Kiyoshi Yamashita and in particular his firework pictures. We found out that he often used the technique known as 'chigiri-e' which is a paper collage technique that involves sticking torn pieces of colored paper together. We tried out this technique along with others using a variety of tools. We will be using these skills to create our own masterpieces in the style of Yamashita. Watch this space!

Computing

Year 1 have been using 2count (a computer programme) to create pictograms. We created a class pictogram of their favourite fruits and then asked questions about it. On the iPads the children worked on a pictogram about pets. They worked either on their own or with a partner to ask questions about the pictogram. The children had some great questions, such as ‘What is the most popular pet?’ ‘How many people have a dog?’. Great work Year 1.

Africa

As part of their Geography lessons, Year 1 have been learning about Africa. They  watched a video showing animals in the African savannah. They then had to paint a picture, adding silhouettes or cut-out animals to their habitat.
