What we’ve been doing…

overgate elf dash

Year 4 had lots of fun taking part in the Overgate Elf Dash in our Christmas jumpers and elf hats. Merry Christmas everyone!

the eye of the wolf

Year 4 have been researching endangered animals in English  linked to our class text - The Eye of the Wolf. They could choose between a turtle, a polar bear and a western gorilla. They worked well to use the Ipads to research and find out lots of information and will use this to create fact files about their chosen animal.

Wonderful Windows

Year 4 have been learning about Judaism. We have created stained glass windows and we think they would be good enough to be displayed in any synagogue.

Safety Superheroes

Year 4 and 5 participated in The Safety Superhero Academy workshop this afternoon. The workshop helps children learn about essential safety concepts while introducing them to exciting STEM role models. The fun, hands-on workshops are designed to inspire curiosity, spark creativity, and empower children to become safety champions.

Cooking Week

On Tuesday afternoon, Year 4 have made beanie bake. We followed a recipe from the Phunky foods website. (https://www.phunkyfoods.co.uk/recipe/beanie-bake/)

The children had to practise their peeling, chopping, grating and mixing skills.

While the children were waiting for their food to cook, they designed the packaging to take it home in.

What a busy, fun afternoon we had!

Workshop

Year 4 received a visit from Karl, who is part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade team. We learnt about the changes that are being made and why. We watched an educational video which taught us all the different jobs involved in the upgrade and many interesting facts too.

Children In Need

Year 4 have enjoyed dressing down for Children in Need day. We enjoyed taking some silly photos too.

Sewing

Year 4 have designed and created a pencil case; the designs are linked to school - hearts, bees, crosses and books.

The children have used blanket stitch to sew around their product and back stitch to sew on the appliqué. They have done an amazing job and these will be used in class to keep our stationery in.

Europe and North America

Year 4 have really enjoyed learning about Europe and comparing it to North America.

For our final lesson the children have shared some project homework's they have created. The children were really creative and we had models, PowerPoints and fact sheets.
A huge well done to all those that contributed and presented to the class.

Mathsopoly

Year 4 have been busy learning about addition and subtraction of two 4 digit numbers. They have played a mathsopoly game where they got to put their skills to the test and challenge their friends.

Rounding fun!

The children in Year 4 have been using their place value knowledge to support their learning about rounding. They played a game with a partner to round to the nearest 100. What a fun, practical lesson we had whilst learning a new skill.

Yucky Fun!

In Year 4 we have been learning about solids and liquids and being able to identify what makes them a solid or liquid.
We discovered a problem with slime.
Slime is neither a solid nor a liquid, but a non-Newtonian fluid, a substance that behaves like a liquid in some situations and a solid in others, depending on the pressure applied.
When you apply force, like squeezing or hitting it, slime becomes more solid-like and resists deformation. However, when the force is removed, or when you let it drip, it flows and takes the shape of its container like a liquid.
We had lots of yucky fun investigating this.
